Things certainly have changed from the days of command and control IT of ten or so years ago. Since then IT has begun maturing (we're still not there yet) from simply a provider of technology (who also has a habbit of locking things down, throttling connections, and limiting what people can do with technology) to an enabler of innovation, efficiency, capability, and competitive differentiation over rival firms. In order to do that, we've had to not only devise more creative and powerful solutions but, more so, to give users the tools they need and then get out of the way.
