Do you have to fill out a renewal passport form or a whole new application form when trying to get an urgent passport. I leave in 15 days to go to Cuba and the passport I have has two signatures. By the picture I signed my shortened first name and in ink I signed my whole name. I know stupid right... I am a Canadian citizen living and working in the US. I recently married a US citizen. We filed our US Immigration petition and green card application in February, 2012. Then only a month ago I received my employment authorization card. At that point, I realized I had to renew my Canadian passport which expires in July, 2012. I presumed that it would take several more months for US Immigration to notify my wife and me of the date for the green card marriage interview.

So I went ahead and submitted my Canadian passport and renewal application at the beginning of May, 2012, expecting to have my new passport well in advance of my green card interview. MISTAKE!

Literally the day after I mailed the passport renewal application to Ottawa I received notice from US Immigration for my green card interview on May 23!!!! So if I count 20 business days and travel time for me to receive my new Canadian passport, I will not have it in time for my green card interview. Naturally, US Immigration specifies in the notice that they want to see my passport.

So, I am at risk now of not having my passport in time for the interview, which will likely result in delaying the interview, and that means possibly having to re-submit documents to US Immigration, all at tremendous hassle and expense to myself. And who knows when they will reschedule the interview. All the while I can't leave the US to visit my Canadian family, nor to take the Ontario Bar exam which is in June.

I know I still have about a week to receive the passport and still be in time for the green card interview. But everytime I call Passport Canada to explain my situation and ask for status, I get a different answer. I'm not so sure they understand my problem, nor that they care.

The first phone call I made was great. I got a reassuring rep who told me to fax a letter to their office explaining my situation, and that it was likely they would expedite the processing for me. So I sent the letter. But the next couple of calls I made were not so reassuring. I was told that I could just come to Toronto to pick up the passport in person before the green card interview. But they didn't seem to understand that under US Immigration law, if I leave the US before I get the green card, then my appliacation is considered abandonded, and I can't re-enter the US, and I'd have to start the entire petition and green card application over again, including having to repay the fees. Unfortunately, requesting travel authorization from US Immigration is no answer because it takes up to 2 months for them to make a decision, and I clearly don't have that much time.

I uunderstand that I could have just waited to submit my passport for renewal. But I never expected US Immigration to be so efficient that I'd have a green card interview within 4 months of first applying!

Today I called Passport Canada again and got a sympathetic rep. I was told that my application is approved, but the mailing date is May 28, which is 5 days too late. So, the rep took my number and said she would have someone call me to discuss my extenuating circumstance. Unfortunately, I made that call at 9:00am, and it's now after close of business, and I now have under a week before my green card interview, and next Monday is Victoria Day, so that doesn't help me.

My next option is to go to the Canadian Consulate General in Manhattan tomorrow to explain in hopes that they can help expedite the passport. I hope I can get some help.

Through this whole process I would rate Passport Canada as helpful over the phone. But I don't know if anyone knows or cares about my extenuating circumstance. Yes, everyone wants their passport sooner rather than later. And yes, I should have waited to send my passport for renewal. But now I have a problem, a time constraint. And I'm hoping that my calls and letters and visit to the Consulate will get me the help I need.

After sending in the renewal application to the Canadian Embassy in Hong Kong, I realized that I had to travel in the next week or so. However they've stated I wouldn't receive it for another 15 days. I was advised to purchase my ticket anyway and come back with proof of travel and they would be able to speed up the process. However it turns out that they would only give me a temporary passport which takes 5 working days. I was not informed that depending on where to go, I would have to apply for a separate visa from the place of travel. Because of this lack of information, I have now booked and paid for a full trip flight/hotel but not enough time to apply for both temporary passport and visa. Is there any way possible to speed up the process in order to receive my new passport in a week?

I am suporting a person that was Here for vacation and got stolen, now he has nothing with him, no docs, no money., no nothing... I started to help him to ensure his dignity till he get home, but seems a never end story and even him in contact with Ottawa , they sent a passport that simply never arrived here and returned to them then sent it back again, now is stuck on Brazilian Customs bureaucracy ( as per their info ).
Now he said Ottawa confirmed they have an EXPRESS document done to ensure he can go back, BUT the document NEVER comes.

The guy is very intelligent and I don´t think he have any problem in Canada, But he is orfan and his grandma died last year no parents and no one there in Toronto to Help him back, I m afraid my resources will not be available soon, and I don´t ´know how to help more.

found a crazy site...you call the number, a guy picks up the phone, tells you what you need to have and will meet you downtown in the middle of the night at a store to take your photo.

5 minutes in and out.

Cost a crap load of money.......but if you want to go on your trip.....then you have no choice.

We just moved this past week & my husband's passport wasn't where it would normally be. Therefore, it was misplaced during the move. We are leaving on Thursday for Seattle. So, to make a long story short, my passport renewal application is currently being processed and I was told on the phone that everything was done, but that the mail out date was July 6th. I just found out that I NEED to travel to NY for just a day on the 8th, and now I'm really stressing out. Is there ANY way at all that I can have it mailed to me quicker? I wasn't in a rush before, or I would have done it in person instead of mailing it. Is there anything I can do? Anything at all?

I HAVE A QUESTION. I am leaving for Mexico on July 10, 2011 (a Sunday) and the passport office told me I can pick up my passport on July 8, 2011. That's the absolute last date to get my passport. Has anyone had problems with their pick up time? Do you think I will be guaranteed to get my passport on that date? I'm SO scared that I will not be able to go on my trip if they have a problem getting my passport on time.

Any info would be great, hopefully no one has had problems when they had a pick up date!

I called the 1-800-567-6868 number and they've told me they're not allowed to give out the number, but my boss is telling me that he's called the number before. So, it is 9pm Thursday May 12th, and I am booked to leave Edmonton to Mexico, 9am Fri the 13th...Only to realize that my passport is expired! Thinking it is the end, and the whole trip is down the drain.

But, luckily, there is a way to make it work.

How to get a Same-Day Passport in Canada

1. You need to get a new set of passport photos
2. Two Individuals you have known for atleast 3 years who have a passport (You will need their contact info: Name, address, phone number)
3. The expired passport
4. MOST IMPORTANT: Proof of flight, leaving within 24hours from current time.

Once you have all these things, you need to go into Canada Place (Edmonton) or the main Passport Office in your city.
The process takes about 4 hours. They just need to be able to contact the people you leave as references, so make sure they are available.

I renewed my passport just before I "moved" down here and will have to renew it again in a couple years. Passport is expiring soon. I live in the US with a student VISA, which is good till I finish. However my passport is expiring right before I return to Canada for summer break. But I don't want to send in my passport to renew and risk not getting it back in time to come home. I am in Canada till Saturday and going to try to go to the office and renew it before I go back to the US but obviously cannot give them my old passport because I need it to get back to school. I have been trying to get hold of someone about my passport with no luck, wouldn't ya know?! If you go in to renew your passport can you keep the old one till you get the new one?

Just wanted to let people know, yes you can get a passport the same day in an emergency. You need to call the emergency number for the passport office and let them know the situation. A passport clerk will call you back and you will need to meet him/her where ever the office is. If you have your old passport, new picture, filled out forms and proof of travel (ie. you plane ticket), you can get one the same day for $307.00, $220.00 + passport fee. I just did it for a trip to the Bahamas. I didnt realize your passport had to be valid for 6 moths past your date of travel for a visa. The whole process took about 4 hours here in Ottawa. I hope this helps someone.

I am trying to get my sons passport so we can travel to Houston to visit my husband who is working there. I called passport number and asked if there was any way of getting it if my husband is not in the country. They said I will have to do paperwork and have him courier or mail original copy with his signature and fax isnt sufficient. We did this; I received the document on the 24th of February, he had it overnight couriered to the company he is a subcontract for here in Alberta where I picked up the envelope. I went to passport office, and asked for a rush on the passport because my husband hasnt seen his son in 4 weeks; she said that if he's not in the country when he signed the passport that it's not valid, BUT if I can give her a copy of the envelope that it was couriered in to me by fax, that she will issue it. She said a copy of the envelope is fine, but when i got back to work, i realized the waybill that was in the plastic insert was missing, im assuming the company he's working for kept it considering they paid the shipping. We tried to get a copy with no luck. The passport office called me looking for it, I explained i cant get it, and she said the only way is for him to go to Houston Consulate office and sign some document stating he signed the application. My husband goes to the Houston office, and they do not do any passport services there, only in Dallas which is about 5 hour drive to get to from where he was. It seems they are making up rules as they go; when I originally called to see what we require, there was no mention on having copies of waybill for the shipment, nor was there any requirement to go to office in Houston. I am mad they sent us on a wild goose chase in Houston. Is there a rule that a parent cannot sign a passport application if they arent physically in Canada?
